Dubai Metro plans to extend network

Dubai keeps adding lines and colours as it plans citywide coverage for its hugely ambitious metro rail project. A Purple Line is in the conceptual stage to provide services to Dubai International Airport and cover the catchment areas along Al Khail Road.
There are also plans for a Blue Line to meet the projected needs of the growing population base in newly developing residential areas. “International experience suggests that the Metro route tends to bring economic regeneration along its route and this in turn will have an upturn impact on real estate close to the railway,” says Abdul Majid Al Khaja, Chief Executive Officer, Rail Agency, part of the Roads and Transport Agency, the company behind the metro project.
“According to our planning studies, it is predicted the areas of Jumeirah Village triangle and the Green Community vicinity will see a population growth that justifies the provision of rail services — this is why we are also planning a further Blue Line along the Emirates Road.”

Round-the-clock infrastructure work has already started at key locations in the city for the primary route network. The surrounding areas in most of these routes fall into the well-developed category. But the expansion of the route network into the city’s emerging areas is unlocking a wave of land buying and selling activity. The process will accelerate once the station locations are identified for the new lines, according to analysts.
The experience in other cities suggests that areas within reach of a station will feel the immediate benefits of land price gains. Some of these sites neighbouring the stations could be developed for commercial endeavours as parking bays and retail facilities.

What’s on track
• The Dubai Metro is designed to carry 23,200 passengers an hour in each direction on the Red Line, and 16,000 on the Green Line.
• The Rail Agency predicts that the system will carry around 1.85 million passengers per day. Each train is planned to have a capacity of 658 passengers.
• Two interchange stations will be built at Union Square and BurJuman.
• The Red Line is expected to run 52 kilometres — from Rashidiya in the north through BurJuman and Union Square and Shaikh Zayed Road, and progressively extending to Jebel Ali Port in the south.
• The Green Line will be about 22 kilometres and will run from Al Ghusais via the Central Business District and pass through BurJuman, Union Square, Al Ras and eventually reach Jadaf 2 along the shores of the Creek.

Autre chose:
The Palm Trump International Hotel and Tower, also referred to as Trump Tower Dubai, will be the luxury centerpiece building of the Palm Golden Mile, located on the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah. The Palm Trump International Hotel and Tower will be a 48-storey mixed-use condo-hotel and residence with a 300 room five-star hotel and 360 freehold residential apartments. Some of the amentities include exclusive access to a private beach and yacht club with tennis courts, gymnasium and fitness centre, stylized pools and gardens. The AED 2.2 billion (US$ 600 million) development will be the first joint venture between Al Nakheel and The Trump Organization, who's president and chairman is Donald Trump.

How the Great Dubai Wheel in Dubailand will look.
Dubai: Dubai Municipality has approved the master plan of the Dh250-million Great Dubai Wheel project.
Developers say the wheel will be the tallest observation wheel in the world, and will be larger than the London Eye, which was recently voted the world's best tourist attraction.
Work will begin shortly on the 185-metre Observation Wheel, one of Dubailand's key tourist attractions, which will welcome its first visitors in early 2009 and provide a panoramic view of Dubai.
It will have 30 orbiter capsules with a total capacity of 7.5 million guests per year. The project also includes a restaurant and condominiums.
During the journey on the wheel, the visitor will be able to view distances of up to 50 kilometres.
The master plan was presented to Dubailand and Dubai Municipality by Great Wheel Corporation, a company that develops, finances, builds and operates Great Wheels. Currently, the group is working on various sites around the world.

In total, 13,000 homes have been handed over to their new owners."

The Palm Jebel Ali will be the second of Nakheel's three palm projects to be completed, with construction set to finish in 2010.
Dubai has excelled itself in imagination and ambition with The World, a cluster of 300 man made islands shaped like a map of the world.
The project, being developed by Nakheel and due for completion in 2010, represents an investment of more than Dh3bn."
