L'ancienne prison d' Alcatraz va être recouverte de panneaux photovoltaïques

Les gérants de l'ancienne prison d' Alcatraz, devenue depuis sa fermeture un parc national et un haut lieu touristique de la baie de San Francisco, vont équiper les toits de l'établissement de panneaux solaires.

Je comprends pas pourquoi on n'a pas supprimé cet établissement qui est dans un sale état et fait vraiment tache au milieu de la baie...

Patrimoine ! Sinon les photos font rêver.... Un jour quand j'aurais des sous :D

pour moi cette ville est la Manhattan de l'Ouest Américain ! une ville dense du fait de sa quasi insularité , un centre ville très animé et multi-culturel, j'adore ! on a est mille lieux de villes mortes tel Dalles, Houston, Atlanta, avec des quartiers pavillonaires, des supermachés, des parking et des Down Town morts à 19h

Ma ville de coeur !

Onze ans de travaux auront été nécessaires pour construire la nouvelle section Est du Bay Bridge, le célèbre pont reliant San Francisco à Oakland.



Inauguré le 7 septembre dernier, l’ouvrage à la structure parasismique originale - un pont suspendu auto-ancré à pylône unique - vient remplacer un pont treillis cantilever de 1936 qu’un séisme avait endommagé en 1989.
Les dix voies autoroutières et les larges circulations dédiées aux déplacements doux font de ce pont le plus large du monde, avec 78 m d’un bord à l’autre!

Coût du projet: environ 4,8 milliards d’euros.
Conception: T.Y. Lin International.
Architecture: Donald MacDonald Architects.
Groupement de construction: PCI Constructors, Kiewit Pacific, Manson Construction.

San Francisco Bay Bridge New Span Sees First Commute

The gleaming white and newly built $6.4 billion eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge handled its first commutes Tuesday with few problems other than the traffic snarls that were common around the old span.

California Highway Patrol Officer Sam Morgan said traffic heading into San Francisco on the bridge around noon was a little heavier than usual, possibly because of excitement about the new bridge.

One person also received a warning for driving and taking pictures on the closed section of the old bridge, Morgan said.

"While everybody is excited about the new bridge, please remember it is still a roadway designed to get you from Point A to Point B," Morgan warned.
The first ticket issued on the new span went to a motorcyclist going 70 mph, 20 mph over the posted speed limit, according to the Oakland Tribune.

The new, self-anchored suspension span with its single looming white tower opened Monday night, hours after a low-key inaugural chain-cutting ceremony and after years of delays and cost overruns.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan predicted the path itself would become a local attraction.
"Just enjoying that will become an experience that people all over the Bay Area, and probably all over the world, are going to want to have," she said during remarks at the opening.

Quant à l'ancien pont, certains envisagent de le reconvertir en habitations !

Man Proposes Using Old San Francisco Bay Bridge Parts To Build Eco-Friendly House

Amidst the excitement and controversy over the opening of the new eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, plans for the old span's parts have been slightly less enthusiastic.

But when one Bay Area man heard that most of the scrap parts would be sent to China, he began rallying support to hold on to some of the bridge for a new construction project: a house.

David Grieshaber, a computer engineer and entrepreneur, came up with the idea last year. When the new span opened on Labor Day, he launched a website to pitch the idea to Bay Bridge officials, governing agencies and locals, the San Francisco Examiner reported. His plan asks for fewer than 200 feet of the 10,176-foot-long span.

"A piece of our history will be gone forever. Some of the bridge should remain behind for future generations to enjoy," Grieshaber wrote. "Let’s use a few small sections and create the most modern self-sustaining housing and eco multi-use space in the world."
